FreeRTOS

The FreeRTOS project provides a light and real-time operating system for microcontrollers, accompanied by a series of libraries that make it possible to communicate, analyse, remove bugs, trace. The FreeRTOS project is distributed under MIT licence.

The FreeRTOS kernel is monolithic and allows apps to be produced in real-time on light platforms and is available on most mainstream platforms/architectures such as STM32, MPS430, V850, SuperH, AT, AVR, Cortex-M, Cortex-A, etc.

Smile & FreeRTOS

Smile integrates FreeRTOS

Smile has great experience in all types of microcontrollers, SoC, SoM and electronic platforms. Our experts design, manage drivers and, more generally the BSP. Smile offers a complete and unique vertical IoT offering. Our smilers know how to design light and autonomous smart objects and integrate OS such as FreeRTOS into them.

FreeRTOS is part of the AWS offer. As a result, it is particularly well integrated into the AWS ecosystem. Thus, our engineers design end-to-end Cloud or Edge computing solutions.

The FreeRTOS project was distributed firstly under a combined GPL licence and commercial licence including support.

The FreeRTOS project came under the authority of AWS (Amazon Web Services) in 2017 and has since been distributed under a MIT licence.

There are two other commercial licences; OpenRTOS and SafeRTOS.

The OpenRTOS licence includes support and a warranty.

The SafeRTOS licence is a by-product of the FreeRTOS project that offers the documentation and tests required for certification (IEC 61508, IEC 62304, ISO 26262).
