A few days ago, our Smile Embedded & Connected Systems team organized a new challenge. The objective of this evening? To solve the mystery of the Haunted Linux Machine! Through this short summary, we propose you to come back on this one.
THE EVENT
Several embedded enthusiasts gathered during this evening, in order to thwart the traps of our machine that has gone out of control.
On the program: a fun and unique challenge, hosted by Jérémy Rosen, followed by a convivial moment around a buffet. An opportunity for our Smile experts and the participants to discuss Linux issues.

THE CHALLENGE
Smile Embedded & Connected Systems experts often experience strange bugs. The Linux Haunted Machine experience draws on this experience to introduce participants to the Linux architecture. The challenge allows to explore the obscure areas of unix systems, where only a few people dare to venture.
At the beginning of the evening, a virtual machine was distributed to each participant, along with a list of unusual behaviors to observe. Without any other information (not even a password), the challenge was to understand the different problems of the machine, analyze the causes and find solutions.
After two hours of intense research, Smile's experts detailed to the participants the various causes of these behaviors. This challenge allowed everyone to learn more about the systems used daily by ECS teams.
The evening ended with a buffet where participants and experts could discuss their common passion for this fascinating field of embedded systems.
